The Oomiiqsu Aboriginal Mother Centre in Port Alberni, a partnership between Huu-ay-aht First Nations and BC Housing, provides transitional housing and on-site child care for Indigenous mothers and children, especially those escaping violence. Rooted in cultural healing and family connection, the centre offers a safe, supportive environment with wraparound services designed to keep families together and help them rebuild.

This state-of-the-art long term care village represents an innovative new model of dementia care focused on providing a true home for seniors – a place that recognizes residents as individuals and supports their unique needs, interests, choices, and connections. The 156-resident village is divided into 13 households with private suites that ensures a personalized, intimate setting. Each household boasts common living areas, promoting daily engagement in household activities, thus mirroring the essence of a true home. Residents can take part in life’s daily pleasures, including making meals and choosing to participate in usual household activities, such as tidying and laundry, which have been shown to help create a sense of belonging and purpose and improve quality of life. Rosewood Seniors in Burnaby BC is one of the first group homes of its kind in Canada, offering a close-knit care facility for the elderly. With a peaceful, Japanese-inspired architectural design, this 10-room facility provides a smaller, home-like environment. We are excited to be a part of this passive house, green building project at Rosewood Seniors.
